- All volunteers should dress in red and green as much as possible-- but more importantly, DRESS WARMLY
“Crowd Management” Elf 3:00-6:00 p.m.

- Collect an elf hat, reflective vest, and wrapping paper roll.
- Get your assigned section of street to ‘Patrol.”
- Use the bathroom now, so you won’t need to during the parade.
IMPORTANT: The parade must keep moving! Wave floats and others forward if they are opening up large gaps between units. Remind anyone in the parade NOT to throw candy, they must hand it out.
- 3:30-3:45
- Walk to and be in position on the route. Stay on your side of the street—do NOT cross between parade units!!
- Interact with the crowd (especially kids), be positive and excited.
- Always look up and down your section of street, watching for anyone running out for candy or just encroaching into the street.
- Kindly remind folks to stay back—”Marching bands need the entire paved area, so no feet out that may trip someone please.”
- Ask folks to please collect any litter you see on the ground, or collect it yourself.
- Lead the applause for the sponsors when their banners come by.
- 5:30 (approximately)
- When Santa passes your assigned zone, please do one last check of your zone for litter and collect it.
- Return your wrapping paper and vest to White Rock Ave & Baxter St —YOU KEEP your hat!
- Be sure to check the vest in at the counter—don’t just toss it inside.

“Banner Buddy” Elf 3:00-6:00 p.m.

- Be sure to KNOW which banner you are carrying and who your “banner buddy” is.
- Sign out a numbered vest, and be sure your buddy has the same color vest (orange or yellow).
- It will be several hours before you’re indoors again. Please use the restroom.
- Dress warmly in as much red and green as you can. You should wear gloves (not mittens).

- You will receive your banner and shown your space in line.
- Do NOT change your assigned banner from registration!
- Please be flexible if asked to make adjustments.

- Parade begins.
- Walk slowly and evenly with your buddy along the route.
- Do not get so close to the unit in front of you that the crowd cannot read your banner, but DO keep moving. SMILE, SMILE, SMILE!
- The parade ends at Wisconsin and Maple.
- At the end of the parade, please CAREFULLY walk your banner so as NOT to wrinkle or warp it (They are expensive!) and drop off your banner at White Rock Ave & Baxter St.
- Check your vest back in at the desk at White Rock Ave & Baxter St
- You are free to go after dropping it off.

- We will give you bags to pass out to parade spectators for candy collection.
- Begin walking down the parade route.
- Distribute about 1-2 per family, keeping an eye on making them last until the end of the parade route.

- Pick up a large trash bag.

- Go to the intersection of Grand and Wisconsin Avenue and walk the parade route backwards as the crowd thins.
- Pick up and trash you find, especially candy, parade give-aways, etc.
- Walk to the beginning of the route (Main and Barstow), then back to 741 Grand Ave. to turn in your vest and drop off the trash bag.
- HAVE FUN! Smile and be positive about the “sunny day” being just perfect Christmas parade weather. Thank you!
